Riverside releases public utilities report

More than 4,300 Riverside residents were helped by the city’s Sharing Households Assist Riverside’s Energy [SHARE] program this year.

SHARE  is designed to help qualified low-income residents pay their electric and other utility bills, according to the city’s annual report on the benefits provided by its public utilities department.

Results of the report were in a statement posted on the city’s website.

The utility department’s helped its customers reduce their energy use by more than 22 million kilowatt hours – enough to power approximately 2,400 houses a year – during the city’s 2016-’17 fiscal year.

Also, local businesses and universities received more than $225,000 to research energy efficiency, and the city now produces more than 34 megawatts of solar power a day, the report stated.
