Covered California tries to speed things up

A last-minute surge of enrollees in the Affordable Healthcare Act forced the closure of some options on www.CoveredCa.com., the website that is handling signups for the program in California.

The action was taken so that people would be able to start the enrollment process before midnight Tuesday, when open-enrollment for the program – better known as Obamacare – ends for this year, according to multiple published reports.

During the weekend, more than 100,000 people started to apply through the state-sponsored exchange, with most of those happening on Sunday. Anyone who starts an application before tonight’s deadline will have until April 15 to finish it, according to the reports.
