DeSantis steps down as Moreno Valley city manager

Tom DeSantis has stepped down as Moreno Valley’s city manager.

DeSantis, who is retiring after working in local city government for nearly 30 years, was hired by Moreno Valley in 2011, according to a statement on the city’s website.

He was the city’s human resources director, administrative services director and assistant city manager before being appointed city manager in 2017. Before coming to Moreno Valley, DeSantis held senior management positions in Riverside and San Bernardino counties and the city of Riverside.

“We have accomplished so much in this community,” DeSantis said in the statement. “Collaboration among elected officials, community stakeholders and staff has transformed Moreno Valley into an economic-development powerhouse and leaves the city extremely well positioned for the future.”

“Tom has made lasting contributions to the City of Moreno Valley,” Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez, said in the statement. “We appreciate his leadership of the staff and wish him all the best in retirement.”

Economic Development Director Mike Lee has been appointed interim city manager. The statement doesn’t say when DeSantis’ permanent replacement might be named.
