Riverside County reaches out to disabled adults

Riverside County is offering free food to disabled adults to help them deal with the COVID-19 lockdown.

Adults with a disability or who are more than 60 years old, may call the Riverside County Office on Aging, which is offering food delivery for critical emergencies, according to a statement.

The office is also making available enough essential items to last two weeks, home-delivered meals and Grab-and-Go meal packages at community centers.

“We have a number of programs, depending on our callers’ needs and nutritional risk.,” said Gary Robbins, the office’s deputy director of programs and operations, in the statement. “We will tailor enrollment to any one or more of these important nutrition programs,” said Gary Robbins, Deputy Director for Programs and Operations with Office on Aging.”

The office is averaging nearly 1,200 calls a day and its food requests have tripled, Robbins said.

Seniors or disabled adults may call (800) 510-2020 or visit rcAging.org.
