Riverside has approved financial help to low-income residents who have lost income because of COVID-19.
Customers who get their electricity from the city’s public utility, and who meet specific criteria, are eligible for one $250 credit on their bill, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The city council recently passed the COVID-19 Emergency Recovery Assistance Program, a $5 million operation meant to help the utility’s electric customers who have lost their jobs, been furloughed or are facing income loss because their work hours have been cut.
“Riverside is blessed to have its own utility, which provides us with the ability to provide this kind of custom program for our customers in an emergency,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said in the statement. “I’m proud to see the Riverside Public Utility step up with another way to help our residents in such a challenging time.”
