24 Hour Fitness has declared bankruptcy and will close 30 locations statewide, including five in the Inland Empire.
A statement on the company’s website reads “24 Hour Fitness has made the difficult decision to close the following locations. Members, we invite you to work out at any reopened location throughout 2020.”
The Inland Empire locations that will be shuttered are in Montclair, Moreno Valley, Victorville, Temecula, and Murrieta.
Despite the state easing restrictions on gyms, bars, communal swimming pools, cinemas and other venues that attract large crowds, the Carlsbad-based company announced Monday that is closing more than 130 locations nationwide.
“If it were not for COVID-19 and its devastating effects, we would not be filing for Chapter 11,” Chief Executive Officer Toney Ueber said in the statement. “With that said, we intend to use the process to strengthen the future of 24 Hour Fitness for our team and club members, as well as our stakeholders.”
