DHL announces layoffs

DHL Supply Chain will let go of 346 workers and close a package handling operation at its Ontario facility this summer.

The company, a major player in global logistics, informed the state Employment Development Department of its intentions earlier this month, according to multiple reports.

The layoffs, which are being called permanent, are expected to start in early July and conclude by the end of August. By law, any company that plans to layoff 50 or more employees, or a major part of its staff, must inform the development department of its plans.

The DHL facility is at 5331 S. Carpenter Ave., about eight miles south of Ontario International Airport.

DHL Supply Chain operates in more than 50 countries, with more than 1,600 warehouses and nearly 183 million square feet of warehouse space worldwide, according to the company’s website.
