Mag Instrument Inc. in Ontario, maker of the heavy-duty Maglite flashlight used by much of military and law enforcement, has joined a partnership that will inform the public that July is the worst month for pedestrian and traffic fatalities.
July has been designated National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month because of the rise in accidents and fatalities during that month, according to a statement released by Mag Instrument.
In 2018, 6,283 pedestrians were killed nationwide, an increase of 3.4 percent from the previous year and the highest number in 30 years. Pedestrian injuries and deaths caused by vehicle accidents cost the U.S. economy more than $60 billion that year, according to Jay Prag, professor of economics at the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.
“Maglite is committed to safety and security and make our products with those reasons in mind,” said Tony Maglica, founder and chief executive officer of Mag Instrument, in the statement. “We urge people to stay safe and be particularly vigilant around this deadly time of year and of course, carry some form of illumination at night.”
Besides Mag Instrument, the partnership includes The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, and the Pedestrian Safety Institute.
