Juan C. Perez has been named Riverside County’s interim county executive officer.
Perez will fill in for George Johnson, who is scheduled to retire in December, according to a statement on the county’s website.
The county is conducting a nationwide search for Johnson’s replacement that is being carried out by a recruiting agency. His successor is expected to be announced early next year.
Perez is currently the assistant county executive officer/transportation land management agency director, a post he has held for three years. He began working for the county in 2001 as a road division engineer.
He is not a candidate to be Johnson’s permanent replacement.
The county executive officer reports to the board of supervisors, leads the development and management of the county’s $6.8 billion budget, and oversees all non-elected county departments, according to the statement.
