A San Bernardino cannabis dispensary has become the first Inland Empire business of its kind to join a union.
Employees at Authentic 909 voted Saturday to join United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1167, according to a statement.
The store, at 1181 S. E St., employs about 30 people. The dispensary is owned by Nibble This LLC in San Marino.
“Workers in this sector across California and the country are joining the UFCW because our focus is on creating good-paying union jobs that provide people with a living wage, excellent health and retirement benefits and the best job protections,” said Joe Duffle, president of Local 1167, in a statement. “We are gratified this employer is treating its workers right and serving the community with good, sustainable jobs.”
Earlier this month, Nibble This and Local 1167 held a “record change” at Authentic 909, at which community members reclassified some low-level convictions from their records. This makes it easier for them to obtain jobs and housing.
Local 1167 represents more than 20,000 workers in the Inland Empire and Imperial Counties, according to the statement.
