Moreno Valley renters, or residents who are temporarily homeless, may receive one-time assistance from the recently created Moreno Valley Rental Rescue Plan.
Eligible households may receive up to $5,000 for past-due rent or utilities, or the cost of acquiring permanent housing, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Permanent housing assistance might include application fees, moving costs, and security or utility deposits, among other possible costs.
Rental Rescue is a partnership between Moreno Valley and Inland SoCal United Way, paid for with $1.68 million from the federal CARES Act. That plan was recently approved by the city council.
“We know there are many individuals and families in our community who are worried sick about how they’re going to pay the rent, and others who are already without housing,” said Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez in the statement.
Rental Rescue is for Moreno Valley residents only. To be eligible, an individual or family must show a loss of income due to Coronavirus, and their household income must not exceed 50 percent of Riverside County’s average median income by family size.
For example, a family of four’s annual income must not exceed $37,650. Payments will be made directly to landlords or utility providers.
Rental Rescue is scheduled to run through March 30 of next year, but it could be extended if more funding is made available, according to the statement.
