Redlands gets set to redo housing policies

Redlands is asking for the public’s help in updating the housing element of the city’s general plan.

The current housing element details Redlands’ housing goals from 2013 through the end of this year, and by law it must be updated, according to a statement on the city’s website.

The housing element:

  • Analyzes the County’s demographics, economics and housing supply;
  • Analyzes housing constraints and resources;
  • Evaluates sites appropriate for potential housing;
  • Develops housing goals, objectives, policies, and programs.

Redlands has designed a survey to solicit public input to the process. The survey is available in both English and Spanish at https://www.cityofredlands.org/post/housing-element-update.

Any city’s housing element must be consistent with statewide housing laws and guidelines in the California Government Code. A city or town must also show that it has sufficient capacity to accommodate the number of housing units identified in the regional housing needs assessment, according to the statement.
