Apple Valley to allow youth, adult sports

Apple Valley plans to open its sports fields to youth and adult sports in time for spring.

“To say that we are eager to get back to the business of having fun is an understatement. We have missed offering our residents these activities while we waited for the danger of COVID-19 to recede,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Dave Coleman in a statement. “Although not all sports are allowed yet, we hope to get approval to open more very soon.”

Last week, state health officials announced they were easing some COVID-19 restrictions, after Californian’s infection fell below 14 cases per 1,000 residents. That move allows cities and towns to sponsor moderate and high contact outdoor sports including baseball, softball, and running events.

The Town will host a “St. Paddy’s Day Run in the Park” from 3 to 6 p.m March 17., preceded by a run from 7 a.m. to noon March 13. Both events will be at Civic Center Park.
