UCR medical school building gets final OK

Final approval has been given for the construction of UC Riverside’s School of Medicine’s Education Building II.

The University of California Regents recently gave the last approval needed to begin construction, vote which includes a construction budget, final design plans and compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act, according to a statement on the the university’s website.

That vote also included approval of Colorado-based Hensel Phelps General Contractor & Construction as the design-build partner for the project. Hersel Phelps was selected following a one-year search by the medical school and the university’s office of Planning, Design and Construction.

“I would like to thank the UC Regents for their approval of this project, which will give us the space we need to grow our class sizes to 125 students per year and continue to fulfill the mission of increasing the number of physicians in the underserved inland Southern California,” said Deborah Deas, medical school dean and vice chancellor of health sciences, in the statement.
