Lake Elsinore might be on the verge of allowing food trucks on its streets.
The City Council is scheduled to consider an ordinance Tuesday that would permit food trucks in public areas if they get mobile vending and business licenses from the city and a health permit from Riverside County, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Food trucks have grown in popularity during the past few years. Riverside County recently voted to allow mobile food trucks, reversing a long-time ban that was put in place because of public health concerns.
The county has long allowed food carts, according to the report.
Lake Elsinore’s proposed ordinance has drawn opposition from the Southern California Mobile Food Vendors Association, which is against a clause that would prevent the trucks from operating within 250 feet of any restaurant.
Trade association officials believe that restriction would be the same as prohibiting pizza deliveries near a restaurant, according to the report.
