ONT expects busy Thanksgiving

Ontario International Airport is expected to accommodate more than 180,000 passengers during the extended Thanksgiving holiday.

That would nearly equal the passenger traffic handled by the airport during Thanksgiving 2019, four months before the pandemic hit, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Ontario International Airport Authority.

Airport officials expect 180,639 passengers to fly into and out of Ontario International from Friday, November 19 through Monday, November 29. The estimate is based on current flight schedules.

If that prediction holds, passenger traffic will be only 1.2 percent lower than it was during the same 11-day stretch in Thanksgiving 2019.

“We have been experiencing near pre-pandemic passenger volumes in recent months and we couldn’t be happier to welcome our customers over Thanksgiving,” said Alan D. Wapner, the authority’s board president, in the statement.

Airlines operating at Ontario International are offering more than 209,000 seats this Thanksgiving, 2.8 percent fewer than were made available during Thanksgiving 2019. More than 86 percent of this year’s seats are filled, according to the statement.
