Ted Alejandre and Gwendolyn Dowdy-Rodgers have been appointed to First 5 San Bernardino, a commission that helps children up to five years old get a quality start in life.
Two seats opened following the passing of Margaret Hill, who was a commissioner for eight years, and when Jorge Escalante’s term expired in January.
Alejandre is San Bernardino County’s superintendent of schools. A retired U.S. Air Force colonel, Alejandre was elected superintendent in June 2014.
Dowdy-Rodgers is a community development specialist for Pacific Clinics, where she advocates for mental health services and resources on behalf of foster youth. She is also president and chief executive officer of Arrowhead United Way and a member of San Bernardino Unified’s Board of Education.
“I am thrilled that the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has selected Ted and Gwen to serve on the Children and Families Commission – First 5 San Bernardino,” said Karen Scott, First 5’s executive director, in the statement. “Their knowledge of the community and experience with children brings invaluable expertise to our commission. “
