ONT has busiest month in nearly six years

Ontario International Airport accommodated nearly 520,000 passengers in May, the airport’s busiest month since it was returned to local ownership nearly six years ago.

Last month’s passenger count was up 41.5 percent year-over-year and was 9.2 percent higher than May 2019’s passenger count, the last time that month was not affected by COVID-19, according to the Ontario International Airport Authority.

During May, the airport attracted 519,085 passengers: 502,042 domestic and 16,843 international.

Throughout the first five months of this year, more than two million domestic air travelers and 73,000 international passengers used Ontario International, 1.4 percent higher than 2019 and 74.6 percent greater than last year.

Cargo shipments were up 11.6 percent compared with May 2021.

“We are immensely pleased with the pace of Ontario International’s performance as we move into the heart of the summer travel season,” said Atif Elkadi, Ontario International’s chief executive officer, in the statement.
