Report on fireworks show expected next month

Upland held its annual Fourth of July fireworks show on schedule this year, but it will be about one month before city officials know if the event was a financial success.

City leaders considered canceling the event after 27 years due to the city’s ongoing financial crisis, but decided to go into the city’s general fund to pay for the show because it would benefit the community, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Last year’s show cost more than $37,000 to stage but ultimately lost about $1,100. The financial reports on this year’s show are expected to be ready by August, according to the report.

This year’s show was held at Upland High School’s football stadium and the stands were more than half full, according to the report.
