Ontario International Airport increased its passenger count for the fifth consecutive month in July, according to data released Monday.
More than 520,000 air travelers passed through the airport last month, an 8.8 percent increase year-over-year and five percent higher than July 2019, the most recent pre-pandemic count for that month, the Ontario International Airport Authority reported.
Domestic and international travelers topped 502,000 and 17,000, respectively, last month. Domestic passenger volume increased by 7.4 percent from July 2019 and 8.7 percent year-over-year.
July was also the third consecutive month Ontario International’s passenger count topped 500,000.
“Ontario International continues to deliver strong results as demand for air travel in Southern California rebounds,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the airport authority’s board of commissioners, in the statement. “We expect the trend will continue through the summer travel season and into the fall.”
Ontario International accommodated approximately 3.1 million passengers during the first seven months of the year, up three percent from the same period in 2019 and nearly 50 percent higher than last year.
Air cargo shipments reached 68,000 tons in July, an increase of nearly six percent compared with July 2019, the airport authority reported.
