ONT nearly back to pre-pandemic passenger levels

ONT expects strong Thanksgiving

Ontario International Airport is expecting a busy Thanksgiving holiday.

Airport officials are predicting a passenger count of 189,743 from Nov. 18 through Nov. 28, a 3.7 percent increase compared to pre-pandemic 2019 if that prediction holds true, according to a statement released Thursday.

Those numbers are based on published airline schedules. The busiest days are expected to be Nov. 23, and Nov. 27, when more than 19,500 air travelers are expected to pass through Ontario International.

“We are grateful that air travelers are returning to our terminals at such a robust pace,” said Atif Elkadi, the Ontario International Airport Authority’s chief executive officer, in the statement.  “Ontario International has surpassed pre-pandemic passenger volumes for the past eight months, and we look forward to greeting greater numbers for the Thanksgiving holiday.”

Airlines at Ontario International are offering more than 229,000 seats, 6.8 percent more than were available three years ago. Eighty-three percent of those seats are expected to be sold, according to the statement.
