Riverside selects new city manager

Mike Futrell has been named Riverside’s next city manager.

Currently South San Francisco’s  city manager, a position he had held for nearly nine years, Futrell is scheduled to replace interim City Manager Michael Moore in January, according to statement issued by Riverside.

Moore, who has held the interim position since June, will return to his previous role as Riverside’s fire chief.

“Mike Futrell is a dynamic leader with a tested and proven track record of public service,” said Councilman Ronaldo Fierro, who was in charge of the search that led to Futrell’s hiring.  “He distinguished himself among a field of outstanding candidates and is truly the right person at the right time to lead Riverside.”

In South San Francisco, Futrell oversees a $400 million budget and AAA credit rating. Before joining that city he was chief administrative officer for Baton Rouge, LA, leading 4,600 city employees and managing a $3 billion budget, according to the statement.
