California Baptist University has received a $28.5 million donation, the largest gift in the school’s 73-year history.
The grant is from real estate developer Dale E. Fowler and his wife, Sarah Ann, who were “early and significant” supporters of the Riverside campus, according to a statement posted on the school’s website.
Cal Baptist will name its 5,050-seat campus events center after the Fowlers. That facility, which opened in 2017, hosts basketball games, religious services and the school’s commencement ceremonies.
“Supporting education is a priority for us,” Dale Fowler said in the statement. “It’s an honor to contribute to a university that makes a lasting impact on the lives of its students and in the areas, they go on to work, serve and live.
“Cal Baptist is a remarkable Christian institution, and we are proud to support the important things happening on campus.”
The donation is not intended for a specific project, according to the statement.
