ONT nearly back to pre-pandemic passenger levels

ONT International passenger count goes way up

Ontario International Airport accommodated 530,000 passengers in April, an 11.6 percent year-over-year increase, according to data released today.

That included 34,000 international travelers, a 138 percent increase compared with April 2022, and the airport’s highest one-month international count ever, the Ontario International Authority reported.

“At a time when many California airports are struggling to restore international services, Ontario is experiencing strong growth and we expect that trend to continue in the coming months,” said Atif Elkadi, the authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

Ontario International’s passenger count rose 15 percent, to 1.87 million during the first four months of the year compared with the same period in 2022. The domestic count was up 12.6 percent, while the international count rose 85.7 percent, the authority reported.

Shipments of commercial freight and mail in April totaled more than 58,000 tons, a drop of 12.7 percent. Year-to-date, cargo shipments fell 10 percent, to 243,000 tons, the authority reported.
