ONT nearly back to pre-pandemic passenger levels

ONT passenger count keeps rising

Ontario International Airport had its best month ever in July, topping its previous records for most passengers and most international passengers.

The airport attracted 582,576 air travelers last month, surpassing the previous record set in June when 559,447 passengers passed through the turnstiles, according to the Ontario International Airport Authority.

That was a year-over-year increase of 12 percent.

Ontario International also accommodated 43,551 International travelers during the seventh month of the year, up from 17,717 in July 2022, a 145.8 percent increase and the airport’s best showing ever in that category.

“The recent traveler data is stunning, and it reflects the strong sense of confidence among our airline partners and customers,” said Atif Elkadi, the airport authority’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

Ontario International’s passenger count was more than 3.5 million during the first seven months of 2023, an annual increase of 12.3 percent. Domestic and international totals were 3.3 million and 219,000, increases of nine percent and 102 percent, respectively.

Total air cargo was 56,359 tons in July, down 17.3 percent from July 2022. Year-to-date, those numbers were 422,514 tons and a decline of 11.4 percent.

The drop in air cargo hauling in and out of Ontario International is consistent with a current trend at airports worldwide, according to the statement.
