Ontario to use federal funds to boost traffic, pedestrian safety

Ontario has received $350,000 in federal funds that it will use to develop safer roads and reduce traffic accidents.

The grant from the Department of Transportation will help pay for a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan, which will cover driver and pedestrian safety throughout the city, according to a statement released Nov. 16 by Rep. Norma Torres, D-Pomona.

“Our communities deserve safe and walkable streets,” Torres said in the statement. “For far too long, the Inland Empire has been underserved in comprehensive infrastructure investments. This is a strong investment in our community’s future.”

The grant was made possible by the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which President Biden signed two years ago.

Torres recently introduced the Pedestrian Hazard, Awareness, and Safety Expansion Act, which addresses rising pedestrian accidents and fatalities in regions like the Inland Empire, according to the statement.
