Airport, Native American tribe reach naming rights agreement

One of the two concourses at Palms Springs International Airport has a new name.

The Regional Jet Concourse is now the Agua Caliente Concourse, the result of a naming rights agreement between the city-owned airport and Agua Caliente Casinos, according to a statement on Palm Springs’ website

The three-year agreement was announced on Dec. 20. It is believed to be the first naming rights agreement between a Native American tribe and a U.S. airport.

In addition to the naming rights, the tribe will be allowed to advertise within the former RJ Concours and throughout the rest of the airport.

“For over 20 years, Agua Caliente Casinos has been the ultimate Coachella Valley destination for gaming and entertainment,” said Saverio R. Scheri III, chief operating officer of Agua Caliente Casinos, in the statement. “This partnership with the Palm Springs International Airport allows us to make an even greater first impression.”

Agua Caliente Casinos is an affiliate of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in Palm Springs. It operates casino-entertainment resorts on tribal land in Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and Cathedral City.
