Fontana has received $9 million in government grants that it will use to help provide shelter for homeless people.
Specifically, the money will pay for the conversion of a property at 17133 Valley Blvd. into a 120-bed interim housing structure, according to a statement on the city’s website.
About $5 million of that total came from San Bernardino County, while $4 million came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition, the city has set aside $6.3 million it received from the American Rescue Plan Act to help pay for the project.
“[These grants] represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to address homelessness in Fontana,” Mayor Acquanetta Warren said in the statement. “With the support of San Bernardino County, HUD, and our ARPA funds, we are expanding our capacity to provide vital housing resources for those most in need within our community.”
Who wants this in Fontana has a resident of over 25 years in Fontana I know my family and neighbors don’t want this in our city.
My Uncle has been homeless for at least 15 years living in a tent by the 210 freeway going back and fourth between Sierra and locust. He could really use a place like this. His name is David Gochanour. Please keep him in mind.
