The company that manages the 11,000-seat Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs will soon have another property in the city to oversee.
Denver-based Oak View Group, a worldwide developer and manager of sports and entertainment venues, has agreed to oversee day-to-day operations at the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre, according to a statement released Feb. 13.
Built in 1936, the downtown building was home to film premieres, nationally broadcast radio theatre programs, and other performances, More recently it was home to The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, a dance and musical review that ran from 1990 to 2014.
The building at 128 S. Palm Canyon Drive will undergo a major renovation that is scheduled to start next month and be completed in the fall of 2025.
Oak View is responsible for day-to-day management of the facility, as well as programming and finding sponsorships. Terms of its agreement with Palm Springs and the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation were not disclosed.
“This agreement … is an economic game-changer for Palm Springs,” said Scott Stiles, city manager, in the statement. “The restoration of the historic Plaza Theatre is a major milestone in the downtown revitalization plan and will bring the world’s best artists and culture to our revitalized downtown.”
