Upland residents will not support several proposed taxes that were planned for the November ballot.
The city will not move forward on a business license tax and a one-cent sales tax because a majority of residents have told a polling firm that they don’t believe either measure is appropriate, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
In a recent memo to the city council, interim City Manager Martin Lomeli said he had decided not to move forward on either measure. He noted that the business license tax was particularly unpopular with city voters.
The council had until Aug. 8 to put either or both proposals before city voters this fall, the report stated.
Council members were considering placing those measures on the ballot based on a recommendation made by the 10-member Upland Fiscal Task Force, which was formed to find ways to save the city $7 million.
