Apple Valley has renewed its public safety contract with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The $18.9 million agreement is a 2.6 percent increase from the previous $18.5 million agreement, according to a statement on the town’s website.
The one-year agreement, which the council passed unanimously, began July 1.
Typically, the High Desert town’s public safety contract goes up five or six percent from one year to the next, so council members were pleased with this year’s agreement, according to Mayor Scott Nassif.
“The sheriff’s department paid off a lot of debt in the past year, and they passed the savings on to us,” Nassif said. “It’s a very good deal for the community.”
Apple Valley (pop. 75,860) has contracted with the sheriff’s department since the town incorporated in 1988. Its sheriff’s station is located next to Town Hall, which is at 14955 Dale Evans Parkway.
