Apple Valley will set up a committee to oversee revenue generated by Measure P, the one-cent sales tax on the town’s Nov. 5 ballot.
If that measure passes, the committee of local residents will track the revenue it creates and make certain it’s spent “in a manner consistent with the intentions stated in the measure,” according to a statement on the town’s website.
Details regarding the committee, including its makeup and how often it will meet, have not been determined.
Measure P’s formal name is the Citizen’s Transactions and Use (Sales) Tax Revenue Measure.
“We are committed to being transparent and accountable to our residents,” Mayor Scott Nassif said in the statement. “The establishment of this oversight committee reflects our dedication to responsible governance and our desire to ensure that any additional revenue from this measure is used for the benefit of our community.”
