San Bernardino County voters who want information on Measure K, the proposed increase of the county’s transit occupancy tax, may do so on a special website.
The TOT website explains in detail what that the tax is, how San Bernardino County’s TOT compares to other communities, how it’s audited, and how the county uses the revenue the tax creates, according to a statement on the county’s website.
Those uses include fixing streets, roads and sidewalks, maintaining public parks and building and reducing homelessness. The tax also helps prevent wildfires and improve emergency response times.
Better known as the bed tax, the transient occupancy tax is a charge added to hotel and short-term rentals. Measure K, which will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot, will increase the tax from seven percent to 11 percent in unincorporated parts of the county.
If passed, Measure K is expected to raise about $9.4 million a year in extra revenue, according to the statement.
