An estimated 600 Inland Empire high school students will get an up close look at a manufacturing career next month.
The students are scheduled to visit the Industrial Technical Learning Center in Fontana on Oct. 4, which is National Manufacturing Day, according to a statement.
The event is being sponsored by Chaffey College.
Students from Grand Terrace, Jurupa Valley, Eisenhower, Granite Hills, Carter, Rialto, Colony, Montclair, Valley View, Yucaipa and Los Osos high schools are expected to participate. All will participate in welding simulations and watch manufacturing-related demonstrations. They will also meet with representatives from different employers, including Frito-Lay, Coca-Cola, California Steel Industries/Nucor, Target and FedEx.
Manufacturing jobs today include industrial maintenance, robot technicians, machinists, and welders, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
