Riverside has begun updating two of its most important documents: Its General Plan and the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan for 2050.
Last updated in 2007, the general plan will determine Riverside’s zoning and land-use policies through 2025, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The climate action plan is being revised because Riverside “is not immune to the local and regional environmental challenges that the city faces from climate change, including extreme heat, fewer colder days, prolonged drought, and poorer air quality,” the statement reads.
The General Plan and the Climate Action Plan are being worked on simultaneously because both will play major roles in the city’s development for years.
Both documents are expected to be updated by early 2027.
