State exports drop slightly

State export market has solid September

California exported $15.9 billion worth of goods in September, a 6.4 percent year-over-year increase, according to a report.

U.S. exports were essentially unchanged during September, going up only 0.1 percent to $171.4 billion, according to an analysis by Beacon Economics in Los Angeles based on data compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Division.

California’s share of the U.S. exports was 9.3 percent, up from 8.7 percent in September 2023.

Exports of California’s manufactured goods rose by six percent year-over-year to $10.1 billion from $9.5 billion. The state’s exports of non-manufactured items increased 4.5 percent, to $1.8 billion, Beacon reported.

During the first nine months of this year, California’s exports totaled $136.1 billion, a 2.1 percent year-over-year gain.

“September’s bump in California’s merchandise exports was all the more remarkable in contrast to the lackluster growth in overall U.S. exports, and a 3.6 percent fall-off in exports from Texas,” said Jock O’Connell, Beacon Economics’ international trade advisor, in a statement.
