Bill Manis is stepping down as Banning’s economic development director.
Manis, who also served as the city’s public information officer and redevelopment agency director, is leaving to accept a deputy city manager-development position with San Bernardino, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Manis noted that the city is in better financial condition now than it was when he started as economic development director three years ago: sales tax revenue went up and unemployment dropped in the city during that time.
He made that claim in a memo to Homer Croy, Banning’s interim city manager, according to the report.
Manis, who worked in Corona, Cypress and Santa Ana before coming to Banning, will oversee San Bernardino’s economic development, community development, housing and public works departments. The city is still recovering from its 2012 bankruptcy filing.
His last day in Banning is scheduled for Tuesday.
