ONT nearly back to pre-pandemic passenger levels

ONT welcomed more than seven million passengers in 2024

More than seven million air travelers passed through Ontario International Airport in 2024, according to data released Jan. 23.

The exact passenger count – 7,084,864 – was 10.2 percent more than 2023 and 27 percent more than pre-pandemic 2019, making Ontario International the fastest-growing medium-to-large size airport in California, the Ontario International Airport Authority reported.

“We believed the 7 million passenger mark was achievable in 2024 and indeed it was,” said Alan D. Wapner, president of the airport authority’s board of commissioners, in a statement. “It was a milestone year that positions our airport to handle increasing demand for air travel in the region.”

Last year’s count was a 67 percent increase since 2016, when Ontario International was transferred to local control from the city of Los Angeles.

Domestic travelers totaled 6,645,968, an increase of 10.5 percent year-over-year, while the number of international fliers grew by 5.1 percent, to 438,896, the most in Ontario International’s history.

December passenger volume was 603,886 an increase of nearly 10 percent from one year earlier. That was the 46th straight month of year-over-year increases, according to the report.
