San Bernardino has joined a nationwide effort designed to support local art projects and community cleanups.
The “Love Your Block” program was started in 2009 by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, according to a statement released by San Bernardino.
That initiative gives grants of $1,000 to $5,000 to neighborhood, student, and civic groups. San Bernardino is one of 16 cities invited to participate this year.
“These grants will allow residents to both showcase what makes their neighborhoods unique and take it up a notch with a community-based project,” Mayor Helen Tran said in the statement.
Eleven grant recipients will be chosen, with the winner receiving $5,000. Proposals will be accepted through March 31.
Local partners include AmeriCorps Vista, Music Changing Lives, Making Hope Happen, and Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services.
