San Bernardino County has begun construction on an animal care facility in Bloomington.
The 56,000-square-foot shelter and care facility operation will feature veterinary services, areas for dogs and cats, and comfortable kennels for animals while they’re waiting to be adopted, according to a statement on the county’s website.
“This is a tremendous milestone for San Bernardino County,” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., in the statement, “Today, we took a major step toward delivering a much-needed, modern animal care facility for our residents, and for the animals who deserve compassionate care.”
The $65 million facility will be built on six acres at 18313 Valley Blvd. It is expected to be completed by the spring of 2027.
The county’s Devore Animal Shelter took in more than 7,700 dogs and cats last year, according to the statement.
