Robert DeChaine of Claremont has been named one of five recipients of Cal State Los Angeles’ President’s Distinguished Professor Award.
DeChaine, a professor of liberal studies and communications studies, teaches courses in rhetorical theory, cultural studies, human rights, globalization and immigration, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.
DeChaine, described by the university as “a prominent scholar in communication studies,” has taught at Cal State LA for 15 years.
He researches how individuals and groups use rhetoric to define citizenship, motivate different constituencies and bring about social change.
DeChaine has also served as faculty adviser to the school’s Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and has been a supervising editor for Colloquy, a student-based journal produced by the university’s Department of Communications Studies, according to the report.
