A Frito-Lay warehouse-distribution plant Rancho Cucamonga will be shut down, eliminating 248 jobs.
The facility at 9535 Archibald Ave. will close June 6, nearly nine months after all 432-manufacturing job there was eliminated, according to published reports.
Six hundred and eighty workers will have lost their jobs when this round of layoffs is completed. The building will be closed permanently.
Frito-Lay will shift its Rancho Cucamonga operations to “a new distribution center in the local community” in order to better serve its customers, but company officials did not say where, according to one report.
Frito-Lay, which owned by PepsiCo, has a production plant in Buena Park and a distribution center in Torrance.
This rounds of layoffs includes 88 material handlers, 10 maintenance mechanics, 80 warehouse workers, and a hostler. The latter is a driver trained to move semi-trailers and shipping containers within a confined area.
The Rancho Cucamonga facility opened in 1970, and at one time was one of the largest employers in San Bernardino County, according to reports.
