Major shopping center planned for High Desert

A shopping center that will cover nearly 300,000 square feet will be built in Victorville.

Desert Sky Plaza II will be developed on 30 acres at the southeast corner of Roy Rogers Drive and Amargosa Road, according to NewMark Merrill Companies, Inc. in Calabasas, the project’s developer.

Ground is expected to be broken in the second quarter of this year. The project, an expansion of Desert Sky Plaza’s first phase, will be anchored by Target, Burlington, and several other “soft goods” retailers. The first phase is anchored by Home Depot and Winco.

Phase II is expected to help attract more than 6.5 million visitors to Desert Sky Plaza annually, according to Placer.ai.

“Desert Sky Plaza II is the culmination of our partnership with Victorville and our commitment to the High Desert,” said Sandy Sigal, NewMark Merrill’s chairman and chief executive officer, in the statement. “We are excited to bring much-needed retail, restaurants, and services to this region as it continues to grow.”

Newmark Merrill will develop the project – formally known as Desert Plazas – with World Premier Investments in Irvine and R.Y. Properties, Inc. in Alhambra. When completed, both phases will be spread throughout 100 acres and will include about 800,000 square feet of retail, according to NewMark Merrill.
