A UC Riverside professor is heading up a research team that is investigating the possibility of life on other planets.
Biogeochemistry professor Timothy Lyons is overseeing a multi-disciplinary team that has received an $8 million grant from NASA’s Astrobiology Institute to conduct a five-year study, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
Lyons, who has spent years studying the chemistry of ancient rocks, said five years should be enough: by then, he expects astrobiologists to be able to detect life on other planets, the report stated.
