Ernest Siva, tribal historian for the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, will be recognized next month for his work preserving Native American culture, language, history and art.
Siva is scheduled to receive the 11th annual Spirit of the Heard Award from the Heard Museum in Scottsdale, Ariz., according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
The presentation, part of the Arizona American Indian Excellence in Leadership Awards, is scheduled to be held Nov. 4 in Scottsdale.
Siva, a tribal elder, is the co-founder and president of Dorothy Ramon Learning Center in Banning. He was born and raised on the Morongo reservation and has been the tribe’s historian and cultural advisor since 1996, the report stated.
