Housing proposal raises concerns

A winery has proposed developing nearly 500 single-family homes in the Temecula Valley Wine Country, much to the distress of some residents there.

In addition to that proposal, the Mount Palomar Winery has dusted off Twelve Oaks, an approved project, that would develop about 200 houses near Lake Skinner, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.

Both proposals have surfaced seven months after the approval of the Temecula Valley Wine Country Community Plan, which applies to nearly 18,000 acres in that region. That plan would double the number of wineries to about 100 and make the region a daily tourist attraction.

But the number of proposed houses could upset those plans by eating up too much space, according to several local officials, including Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Stone, a supporter of the community plan.

One goal of that plan was to limit the amount of residential development in Temecula Valley Wine Country, according to the report.
