Ontario International Airport generated $4.8 billion in economic activity in 2024, making it one of the Inland Empire’s major economic drivers, according to a study.
The airport supported 24,300 jobs two years ago, and contributed $3 billion to Southern California’s gross domestic product, the report by Oxford Economics found.
Since it was returned to local control nearly 10 years ago, the airport has averaged 4.3 million passengers a year, enough to increase its economic economic impact by 75 percent.
“Ten years ago, our community made a bold decision to bring Ontario International Airport back under local control,” said Atif Elkadi, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority, in a statement. “This study demonstrates what can happen when an airport is guided by local accountability, professional management and a long-term commitment to the region it serves.”
Since 2016, tax revenue generated by airport-related activity went from $490 million to $820 million a year, according to the report.
