Henry D. Shannon, superintendent and president of Chaffey College, is retiring.
Shannon, who has overseen the school’s Rancho Cucamonga and Chino campuses since 2007, will leave Dec. 31, according to a statement on the school’s website.
A nationwide search will be conducted to find Shannon’s replacement.
In 2018, Shannon helped pass Measure P, which provided Chaffey College with $700 million to expand and upgrade both campuses. In 2017, the Chaffey College made the top 10 in the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, which Shannon considered one of his best accomplishments.
Shannon, 80, also added online classes and guided both campuses through the pandemic.
“When I look back at my time at Chaffey, I will always remember the smiling students at commencement walking across the stage and their families cheering them on,” Shannon said in the statement. “Those are some of the best moments I’ve had, because I knew we were changing their lives.”
