Larry Vaupel has been named director of San Bernardino County’s economic development agency.
Vaupel, Riverside’s former economic development manager, began work Monday, according to a report in the San Bernardino County Sun.
He will be in charge of three departments – Workforce Development, Community Development and Housing and Economic Development – and will oversee about 140 staff members, the report stated.
A former real estate developer and manager of a commercial real estate brokerage, Vaupel has worked in city planning, real estate development and economic development.
In a statement, Vaupel was quoted as saying one of his top priorities will be implementing the Countywide Vision, a plan launched in 2010 by county residents and community officials.
That plan seeks to make the county a more attractive place to live and conduct business, according to the economic development agency’s website.
