Riverside City Councilman Steve Adams is back on the job.
Adams was rushed to the hospital after suffering what was feared to be a heart attack during the Dec. 9 council meeting, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
However, tests revealed that Adams likely only suffered a recurrence of a hiatal hernia, which he told the newspaper was a rupture of the stomach into the diaphragm, the latter being the muscle that separates the stomach from the abdomen.
The symptoms of a hiaital hernia and a heart attack are similar, as both affect your breathing and heart rate.
Adams returned for the council’s regular meeting on Dec. 16.
Adams, a 15-year veteran of Riverside Police Department, retired due to injuries sustained while on duty. He was elected to the council in 2004 and represents Ward 7 in the northwest part of the city.
